In these hard economic times, many people are too afraid to strike, too afraid that unemployed, younger, and eager job-hunters would easily slide into place without VCU even having to consider the income disparity between highly paid faculty and staff that haven't had a raise in more than 5 years. I certainly can't afford to strike. The issue with VCU and its underpaid and uninsured employees is only a microcosm of what the people protesting under Occupy Together are fighting for.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188151557089820313.post-8349969214955275602011-11-12T04:34:31.979-05:002011-11-12T04:34:31.979-05:00really "total bullshit" on a rather mino...really "total bullshit" on a rather minor detail? that's a bit rough and a bit rude. I do not think it was at all half but DEFINITELY more than 5 as I was with 5 wearing bandannas and they were not those that were arrested. i saw a lot more too. also, WAY over half were prepared to put them on for safety. The rest was considered and true and the only thing i saw missing was the fact that after Festival they then surrounded Kanawha thinking we were headed there and we laughed as we watched and walked by. I appreciate that the writer took the time to write this story out as it needs to be told correctly. Most of those I talk to have absolutely no idea what the movement is about! I find it hard to fully explain in simple language the passion I feel for the reasoning for the occupation. I usually suggest an informative website, because my words alone arent enough to help them to embrace the seriousness of the problems our country is facing. I have known for a long time that change was overdue, and I have seen a scattered few with messages pointing to websites to explain the issues. As we know for a fact, the media is not reporting much about it and when they do, its usually something negative! They are certainly not getting the word out for us. One question I have regarding the occupation is this: If the occupation results in a drastic change, that change may not be any better than what we have. In fact, it couldbe worse. The change Im talking about is the United States govt being involved in a "One world govt" with one govt for all the nations with it being ran by the people of the 1% so to speak. The Bible speaks of a day when this will happen in phrophecy. I have heard it proclaimed by many when talking about our future. In my humble opinion would be worse than the state we are in! Control on a world wide united govt similar to the European Union, with Eros replacing our dollars. People will proclaim peace at last when this happens, but fear and warmongering will be right around the corner.Im just saying, is this what the occupation wants? Would we be satisfied if this is the result of the uprising? How can the occupation initiate the changes we need without compromising our safety, security and uniqueness? I fear the day our nation dissolves itself into part of the "one world government". We will never be safe if that happens!Blondiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09718954440674487096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188151557089820313.post-45385469856521261482011-10-31T18:51:28.868-04:002011-10-31T18:51:28.868-04:00I've always wondered why someone like Chief No...I've always wondered why someone like Chief Norwood would provide support and promises to the Occupy Richmond protestors, then one freezing cold night, intimidate them with State and City Police cars, horses and bulldozers. I used to think he was a do the right thing guy. He promised me he would not commit violence against the protestors as long as they were nonviolent, as he stood outside of Monroe Park. A man is only as good as his word. Today he dodged questions from the press, and that reminded me of Cantor cancelling his Wharton School of Business speech in Philly because the "public" had been invited. So, Alex, as least you know they are concerned, feel like fools, and do not want anyone to disagree with them. All while Steven Spielberg happily films his new movie about Abraham Lincoln two blocks from the raided Kanawha Plaza. The irony strikes me. Wonder if Spielberg can remember the history of his own people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188151557089820313.post-63369314043512089502011-10-31T17:03:29.192-04:002011-10-31T17:03:29.192-04:00I hope you are right.
